As we talked, we told him about the experience we had with other mason companies and what other work we wanted to do in the future. However, Stewart understood our budget and worked up a price to do not only the front step repairs, but also replace our driveway, front and walkways, and patio.
We discussed design, material, and our options, and he worked up a super-competitive estimate that worked within our budget.
He said that he would be in communication and be transparent for the entire process, and that he or his son would be on the project for its lifecycle.
We decided to go ahead with the work, and they started a week later. By the afternoon on Friday, the 15th of March, his team, including his son, was onsite starting demo. They worked quickly getting the back done by the end of the first day.
I worked from home that day and enjoyed the soundtrack they worked to, Michael Jackson's "Thriller."
The next day, the crew was back at 7:30 and ready to work. We had plans but they were able to work without us at the site. At one point, Stewart called and said that he had found our septic tank. Not a big deal except that it needed to be pumped. We were at a hockey game, and Stewart actually arranged for someone to come out to get it pumped. Whatever the circumstance, to me that was going the extra mile.
We had a decision to make about the location of the pavers that were going down since it was going to be over the septic tank. We were going to come up with some design that would keep it accessible but decided to just keep it covered. Stewart explained the pros and cons, and went ahead with what we decided without a fuss. Again, so easy to work with.
There were a few little touches that Legacy's masons did on our corners that really impressed me. The cuts at the corners were so clean and thoughtful.
At the end of the job, the crew was cleaning up. The lead mason saw a paver that was a problem. Instead of just hitting it with a mallet to correct the issue, he popped it out, cleared some dirt, his helper put down cement, popped the paver back down. He wasn't satisfied and repeated the process until the paver was in right. That was impressive enough, but what really blew me away was when he put down more poly-sand to ensure the integrity of the paver after it had been disturbed. Such attention to detail!
And again after that when the same mason was spraying the pavers so the poly-sand would set, and found something else that caught his eye. It was on the repair to the steps, There was excess cement in one of the seams. He put down the hose, grabbed a trowel and sponge, and cleaned the seam. It probably took another five minutes or so to correct. I witnessed it and was floored. He could have walked away but didn't. For that kind of quality of work it was worth the price.
We would definitely recommend Legacy Brick & Stone to friends, family, and neighbors. Since they finished on Friday, several of our neighbors have driven by and slowed down to look at the work. It makes me feel good. One of our neighbors even stopped as we were going over the work and was very complimentary. He seemed disappointed that he had just had a lot of work done.
If I were to sum up Legacy Brick & Stone, Stewart, his son Anthony, and the rest of the team, I would say that were prompt, honest, communicative, and that they take a lot of pride in what they do.
We would use them again.
